| The Environmental Education School
located in the Iguaçú National Park,
was built between 1961 and 1962, with financial
resources from the National Pine Institute, a
former governmental agency prior to the IBDF.
The school began its activities in 1963 as
an elementary school under the name of Iguaçú
National Park State School for children of employees
and farmers in the neighboring areas to the
Park.

In 1966 the school was renamed Major Jose Acilino
de Castro State School, in honor of a city pioneer.
In 1998 the Municipal Education Secretariat ceased
its activities and turned the facility over to the
Ibama.
During the year of 1999, the Project for Remodeling
the INP was started up and Environmental Education
was one of the programs in that project. After that,
the Park School Project was established and its goal
was to provide training on citizen environmental awareness.
The Ibama - Iguaçú National Park - Park
School Project has searched educational support from
the Municipal Education Secretariat of Foz do Iguaçú.
In January of 2000, with the financial backing of
Aventis Pharma do Brasil and from the Concessionaires
operating in the National Park, the Environmental
Education School - Park School was inaugurated thus
being the first school inside a Preservation Unit.
