There are no accurate records of the time, although
information gathered from former employees says
that such building would have been a summer
retreat for president Getulio Vargas. Nevertheless,
the Ministry of War granted the authorization
for the construction of another building for
said purpose some time later.
The building has, since 1995, been used as administration
headquarters and has a first aid station, a
cooperative general store, employees' living
quarters and administration.

Between 1970 and 1988, the building was used
as a visitor's center where specimens of the
regional fauna and flora, Indian materials and
photos of other units were exhibited.
In 1988, the facility was closed to public
visitation and a remodeling was scheduled. Nevertheless,
the building was used as an exhibition facility
for traveling expositions due to the precarious
conditions of the specimens being exhibited
there. Currently, the ground floor of the Administration
building has two meeting rooms, one seating
60 and another seating 40 participants, a permanent
exposition room for the first hydroelectric
power plant located next to the building on
the Sao Joao river, a room for the Management
and Conservation team which is responsible for
all of the Unit's management, inspection, research
and protection activities. Administration offices
are located on the upper floor.
