The objective of Cataratas S.A. is to provide added
visitor service quality and to encourage environmental
education at one of the most visited sightseeing spots
in Brazil. Another of Cataratas do Iguaçú
S.A.'s objectives is to minimize the environmental
impact. Before the implementation of the remodeling
plan, the Iguaçú Park was going through
visitation related problems.
After the implementation of the remodeling project,
the Iguaçú National Park amazes visitors
by the quality of services and by the tourist structure
being offered to those visiting the most import forest
preservation area in southern Brazil. In order to
enable visitors to enjoy their visit, an efficient
visitors service complex has been built. The Iguaçú
Falls, which are the main attraction of the Park,
may be viewed from new and more appealing perspectives.
The second phase of the remodeling will be even more
important because it will improve the elevator area
and the access to the catwalks leading to the Devil's
Gorge. All tourists entering the preservation area
will go through that area.
The entire structure was designed so as to allow a
total integration to nature and by using ecologically
correct materials and wooden structures certified
as to their origin and phytosanitiy. None of the work
foreseen in the remodeling plan will cast a shadow
to the natural attractions.
The new visitation system at the PNI, will endeavor
to allow an increase in the number of visitors while
reducing the environmental impact through an increase
in the average number of passenger per vehicle inside
the Park. The Park's transportation system is in compliance
with the CONAMA (phase IV) and EURO (phase II) emissions
and noise guidelines and a significant reduction in
the number of vehicles driving around the Park has
already been achieved, which in turn has decreased
littering by passengers and the risk of wild life
being run over.
One of the great concerns of the company is environmental
preservation awareness. In the light of this matter,
we are able to evaluate a set of actions that have
been implemented in order to train and certify the
Park's staff by applying Preservation Unit management
guidelines. The main environmental concepts implemented
by the company are listed below:
- Exclusive
shuttle service
- Waste treatment
- Frequent lectures
- Optimizing of water consumption
- Infrastructure with the least
environmental impact
- Low noise levels
- Trash recycling
- Selective trash collection is
practiced inside the PNI, which is the sorting of
usable and non- usable waste. Standardized icons
are posted to identify the organic and recyclable
waste
